Broadway Dance Center’s Summer Intern Program offers a unique opportunity for intensive dance training and the remarkable opportunity to learn about the dance industry by working behind the scenes at our Summer PULSE event.

The Program features Intern-only Master Classes with BDC’s world-renowned Faculty, as well as industry-specific seminars, performance opportunities, weekly meetings, and a closing Mock Audition and Showcase. A nurturing atmosphere of concentrated study assists dancers at varying levels of technical study. We welcome serious students of dance ages 18 through 27. Once accepted, Summer Interns have the opportunity to audition for the Pre-Professional Track to be placed in separate but parallel series of more advanced Master Classes.

Come to New York City and join us at one of the world’s largest and most prestigious dance studios for a summer of incomparable dance training!

Justin Jenny Elyse Nicole Elyse
Shortly after graduating from the Fall Intern course, Justin booked the National Tour of Movin' Out, a show whose choreography is famously difficult. Great work, Justin! Many dancers dream of being a Rockette, and Jenny was no exception. Shortly after finishing her program, Jenny joined The World Famous Radio City Rockettes on their national tour. Also check her out on the new show "Dance 212." When Elyse came to the Intern Program, it had been her dream to dance on a cruise ship. A few short months after finishing her internship, she’s booked a job with Disney Cruise Line and is about to set sail. Nicole began auditioning as soon as she left the intern program. Through her hard work at BDC, she landed a role on the world-famous Vegas Show, Jubilee, only a few weeks after her program's end. We're so proud of her! At the closing Mock Audition of her Summer Intern Program, Lynn was scouted by a dance agent and now enjoys professional representation through MSA. She was booked shortly thereafter for the movie "Eurotrip" with BDC Instructor, Ms. Vee.

Summer Intern Program

  • Summer Session: June 13 – August 8, 2010

Program Includes

  • Concentrated week of Orientation activities, including a Placement Class with Faculty Panel, an Injury Prevention Seminar, and more
  • One-on-one schedule advising
  • Weekly Master Classes or Seminars, including "The Biz" with NYC Dance Agent, Résumé and Headshot Workshop, Makeup, Nutrition, Audition-Readiness and Mock Auditions, discipline-specific Master Classes, Faculty Panel Q & A, Individual Teacher Meetings and regular Faculty Mentoring. Seminars are held Thursday mornings throughout the course and Master Classes are held Saturday mornings — please reserve these times for your mandatory classes.
  • Linear series of Mock Audition exercises, concluding with a realistic Mock experience attended by an NYC dance agent
  • Summer Interns have the option of auditioning for our Pre-Professional Track of study, which will include separate but parallel Master Classes of a more advanced level. The audition for the Pre-Professional track is held in the first week of the program. Both tracks attend all weekly seminars, but are separated for the weekly Master Classes. The level and focus of these Master Classes are adjusted according to each track.
  • Summer Interns serve as staff at our blockbuster Summer PULSE event and work (and dance!) alongside world-famous choreographers -- this will constitute the primary area of work-study for all Summer Interns, allowing more time during the rest of the program to focus on regular coursework
  • Performance Opportunities and free rehearsal space -- the program concludes with a Showcase at an NYC venue, attended by BDC Faculty and special guests including NYC dance agents
  • And, of course, the program’s core is our incomparable schedule of classes, spanning an unmatched number of disciplines and taught by our esteemed Faculty
  • Certificate upon successful completion of the program.

Program Guidelines

  • Interns take 10 classes per week (Monday – Sunday) from our open class schedule. We strongly recommend taking two classes per day.
  • After a brief exploratory period, Interns will select a Concentration discipline (Jazz, Ballet, Theatre, Tap, Hip-Hop), after which the program will comprise:
    • Four classes from the Concentration
    • Two mandatory ballet classes
    • Two diversity requirements (from outside the Concentration)
    • Two Electives
  • Each Intern will work the full four days of our Summer PULSE event in NYC from July 22-25, and load-in or load-out. Interns will also get to take one class with the celebrity choreographer of their choosing at this exciting event. PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in registering for the PULSE Summer, you may still apply for the Summer Internship — you can participate in the four-day PULSE, but you will then be asked to do the work-study portion of your intern program during the rest of your internship by working four hours weekly in the PULSE offices.
  • The BDC Intern Program is a serious full-time course of study, so it is imperative that you come prepared to give your internship highest priority.
